The Trailer Of Kalki Koechlin-Naseeruddin Shah-Starrer 'Waiting' Is Making Us Impatient For The Film

Poignant And Witty, The Trailer Of 'Waiting' Is Making Us Impatient For The Film

The first trailer of Anu Menon’s Waiting premiered online today, and it looks lovely. Featuring an unconventional cast in Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah, Waiting looks like the film wherein both actors benefit from each other’s exceptional talents.

From what we can make out, Kalki and Naseer’s characters meet each other in the waiting room of a hospital as their respective partners have slipped into a state of coma, presumably in separate incidents.

Sharing the grief makes it more bearable, and with that notion in the heart, the duo embarks on an unlikely friendship that is both – an antidote to achingly painful loneliness and the beginning a new journey of moving on. But can the past be left behind, just like that? Or do present circumstances make you reflect at it with a different perspective ? While not directly spelt out, the trailer indicates the film is likely to linger onto these themes.

Kalki and Naseeruddin Shah share an effortlessly comfortable vibe, reminiscent of two strangers who come emotionally close in quick time, and Waiting might just be one of their more-nuanced performances.

Full points to writer-director Anu Menon for cracking the best Twitter joke, bound to get her multiple retweets.

“You know how many followers I have on Twitter? 5800,” she furiously yells at a clueless Naseer. “And you know how many of them are here right now? Zero.”

“What is Twitter?” Naseer replies, with that inimitable deadpan.

While it may be titled Waiting, the film might as well as be of letting go. We’ll know on May 27, when the Manish Mundra and Priti Gupta-produced film opens in theatres.
